After two decades of war, Iraq embraces brighter future with Chinese companies’ efforts, commitment in reconstruction

Exactly two decades after a US-led invasion was launched, Iraq is undergoing tremendous reconstruction on the ruins of war as it tries to heal the wounds from the past.

In recent years, many Chinese companies have gone to Iraq to join in reconstruction efforts. For these Chinese constructors, this is much more than just a job opportunity or business project, but is a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the local people who have gone through the pain of war…

…Once known as the “Venice of the Middle East,” Basra has since lost its former prosperity. As the only hub connecting the Persian Gulf and the inland water system in Iraq, the city is eager to return to its former glory in development.

Large construction projects are underway in the city, with sea vessels assisting in various projects.

Among them are Tianshan and Tianbai, two dredging vessels from China. This is the first phase in the dredging project for Iraq’s new port in Fao. Employees of the Tianjin Dredging Co, a subsidiary of the China Communication Construction Co, work alongside locals on the site to pave the way for the arrival and docking of future vessels…

…The total area of the harbor basin being dredged is about 3.3 million square meters, and the total engineering volume is about 48 million cubic meters. It is scheduled to be completed in July 2025, at which point the port is expected to be the largest in the Middle East and should help reverse the challenge of Iraq’s short coastline and poor port throughput.

Revelation 16:12
The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river, the Euphrates; and its water was dried up, so that the way would be prepared for the kings from the east.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Iraq to build 99 jetties in Faw Port

Iraq intends to build 99 jetties in its Grand Faw Port to make it the largest container terminal in Western Asia, an official has said.

Zainab Al-Musawi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament’s oil and gas committee, said the plan is to construct six large piers for tankers and large vessels along with those smaller jetties that will handle mainly junk cargo.

She told the Iraqi Aliqtisad News website Tuesday that those piers would have a capacity to handle nearly 350,000 bpd of crude , adding that the plan also includes the construction of giant tanks with a storage capacity of 300,000 bpd.

“Faw Port will have 99 jetties and 6 large piers…this means it will be the largest container terminal in West Asia, surpassing Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port which has 67 jetties…this port will largely boost Iraq’s logistics industry,” she said.

South Korea’s Daewoo E&C is executing phase 1 of the Southern Faw Port under a $2.6 billion contract it won 3 years ago.

Revelation 18:11-20

“And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more— 12 cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and bronze and iron and marble, 13 and cinnamon and spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and slaves and human lives. 14 The fruit you long for has gone from you, and all things that were luxurious and splendid have passed away from you and men will no longer find them. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand at a distance because of the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, 16 saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls; 17 for in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!’ And every shipmaster and every passenger and sailor, and as many as make their living by the sea, stood at a distance, 18 and were crying out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What city is like the great city?’ 19 And they threw dust on their heads and were crying out, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had ships at sea became rich by her wealth, for in one hour she has been laid waste!’ 20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her.”

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

In Iraq, Macron seeks bigger sphere of influence for France

France is increasingly flexing its diplomatic muscles in Iraq as French President Emmanuel Macron hosted the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani last Thursday, only weeks after meeting Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani.

During the meeting, Macron expressed support for Iraq and the KRG in the face of external and domestic security threats, while Barzani lauded Paris as an “ally with a common vision.” Both leaders discussed investments and economic diversification in sectors like agriculture and pledged to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

France has maneuvered to rival Washington as Baghdad’s primary Western partner and to counterbalance China’s financial and geopolitical influence in the country….

…After years of US financial neglect for Iraq’s reconstruction, Beijing has become a dominant economic actor in the country as Baghdad’s largest trading partner, accounting for 44% of Iraq’s oil exports in 2021, and has allocated $10.5 billion for projects including a heavy oil power plant that year.

Following the 2019 “oil for construction” deal, these revenues have helped China contribute to wider infrastructure projects in Iraq — an important country to its Belt and Road Initiative.

Just weeks before Macron hosted Barzani, Beijing also pledged nearly $10 billion in infrastructure projects in the Kurdistan Region, involving sectors like railway networks, power, roads and dams.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
